Reptiles
Definition of Reptiles Hierarchical Category as it relates to Animals, Amphibians
A class of cold-blooded vertebrates that includes turtles, lizards, snakes, alligators and crocodiles. Characterized by breathing air, laying shelled eggs (except for some vipers and constrictor snakes), and skin covered in scales or scutes. They are distinguished from amphibians by their dry scaly skin and, for most species, a body plan enabling high levels of physical activity. As a group, they represent one of the main categories within the animal kingdom.
