Definition of Reptiles Hierarchical Category as it relates to Animals, Birds

A group of cold-blooded vertebrates that includes snakes, lizards, crocodiles, turtles, and tuatara. These creatures are distinguished by their dry scaly skin and typically laying soft-shelled eggs on land. Although birds are also part of this lineage, they are usually categorized separately due to their distinct characteristics. As a whole, reptiles form a significant portion of the animal kingdom.
