Aquatic Amphibians

Definition of Aquatic Amphibians Hierarchical Category as it relates to Animals, Amphibians, Fish

Aquatic Amphibians refer to a group of cold-blooded vertebrate animals that dwell in water habitats for most or all of their lives. They are a subset of the broader amphibian class, which also includes terrestrial species. These organisms undergo metamorphosis from a juvenile, water-breathing form to an adult air-breathing form. Unlike fish, they have lungs instead of gills in their adult stage, although some species retain gill-like structures throughout their lives. Examples include frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts.
