Mammals are a group of warm-blooded vertebrates constituting the class Mammalia, characterized by the presence of mammary glands which in females produce milk for feeding their young, a neocortex (a region of the brain), fur or hair, and three middle ear bones. This class of creatures includes numerous distinct species, ranging from the tiny bumblebee bat to the massive blue whale. As a subset of the animal kingdom, they play diverse roles in ecosystems around the globe.
