Ticks are small parasitic arachnids belonging to the order Ixodida, within the larger animal kingdom. Known as external parasites, ticks feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and sometimes reptiles and amphibians. Even though they are often mistaken for insects, ticks are actually closely related to spiders and scorpions.
